World Teachers Programme Subject Workshop for Biology: The Language of Ecology
We will focus on an important topic, but one that is difficult to teach: ecology. The slogan ‘every teacher a language teacher’ really comes to life when you try to tackle ecological issues: so much language, so many species and technical terms, such complicated descriptions of changes over time and interactions, etcetera.
During this meeting we will actively focus on – and do! – a number of activities from the book Ecologie leren & onderwijzen and its website (NVON reeks nr 15). Though in Dutch, it was written with tto-teachers in mind – so with lots of attention to language acquisition.
We will also discuss how subject coaches can support student teachers in developing their skills as language-aware teachers of biology.
This seminar will be conducted in English and is aimed in particular at schools associated with the World Teachers Programme.
Results
You will leave with a number of good, fun and ready-to-use activities to teach ecology and also some ideas on how to diversify your own practice as a teacher of the language of biology.

Kosten
Voor leden van het Onderwijsnetwerk Zuid-Holland en World Teachers Programme zijn er geen kosten verbonden aan deelname. Voor docenten van niet-lidscholen worden er kosten van €125,- in rekening gebracht. Het is mogelijk dat deze prijs wijzigt, omdat de besluitvorming hierover nog niet is afgerond. Wij zullen echter nooit een prijs verhogen achteraf. U krijgt over prijswijzigingen altijd bericht vooraf en u kunt uw inschrijving op basis daarvan dan alsnog terugtrekken. Bij aanmelding wordt u gevraagd om uw organisatie of school. De factuur van het cursusgeld gaat automatisch richting het door u opgegeven school- of organisatieadres. Deelnemers ontvangen aan het einde een certificaat als bewijs van deelname.
